From Far Away. Dir: Thomas Arslan |
|||||||
A completely boring film, shot by a middle aged film-maker, who fritters away the opportunity to make a documentary about Turkey by embarrassing local people into posing for his camera, gives us shots of the children in the corridors of his old school and family members uncertainly recounting episodes from their history. If this had been made on a small digital camera by a school student, we might find it commendable, however Arslan took a super16 camera and crew with him on a holiday like drive from Istambul to the Black Sea coast via Ankara and several other regional centres. The photography is unremarkable and the editing uninspired.
